Computer Troubles. Oh great. (also, a question!)

Hi everyone! Sorry posting was a little sparse yesterday... it will be so again today, I'm afraid. I'm having computer trouble, so I won't be able to post or really respond to emails & the such. Misery & woe...

Here's hoping thing are fixed soon.

& here's hoping your own computers are running fantastically!

At LEAST I have everything backed up (for once in my life).

So - in an ideal world, I shall return soon. While I'm gone, there will be some posts though... because this weekend I was being productive and scheduled some posts ahead of time. So yes. There'll be those even if my laptop does decide to commit electronic suicide. Right now he(she?) is just in a bad place. I can tell he's contemplating ending it... thinking about throwing in the towel.... I hope he sticks in there. C'mon pal.

One of the other tragic things about this is, I spent more than 2 hours of life the other night painstakingly cleaning under every single key, and removing all the dust and lint & such... & then tenderly (well, maybe not tenderly) washing the key itself. I basically gave my laptop the computer form of a spa treatment, and it STILL decided to be a jerk. What a slap in the face. Outrageous. Outrageous

Finally - a question.

Last time my computer was being... unpleasant... I asked everyone for book recommendations, & I got some great ones.

Today, I'd love some movie suggestions (so I can add even more films to my Netflix queue.. despite the fact that it already has more than 400 in it).

In particular, I'd love to hear about some movies that have made you cry! Yes. I just finished reading The Book Thief the other day, and I ended up sobbing and sobbing (more tears than I wept during a few previous break-ups). & after I cleaned the copious mascara smudges from my face, I realized I hadn't had a good "entertainment cry" for a long, long time. So.. bring on the movies that will make my eyes leak and my nose run! Yes.

Also, I'd love to hear about....  any quality scary movies (because a good scare is as good as a good cry) & any movies that just fill you with joy... the cinematic equivalent of Prozac, if you will. Thank you in advance & aurevoir for now!

two movies that made me cry were Big Fish and Cinderella Man

A movie that made me cry (too many to count--but this is very beautiful and haunting--be prepared for darkness and intensity):
Pan's Labyrinth

A movie that is joy-inducing:
Radio Days

A movie that is joyous and will make you cry:
Once

A movie that will make you cry, but you should probably avoid it because it will leave you disturbed and shaken for days on end (I couldn't make it through another viewing of this, and I cried from start to finish). Use EXTREME CAUTION:
Dancer in the Dark

big fish - beautiful story, great visuals, good cry at the end!
behind the sun - foreign but beautiful
life is beautiful - cry all the way through!

and then for some fun...have you seen zombieland? fun!

It might not make you bawl your eyes out, but it'll break your heart a little bit: Bright Star! It's so beautiful.

I love the Book Thief! SO sad, but so, so good. Hope your computer gets better! As far as movies go, I'd recommend:

-The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford (kind of sad, but just completely visually stunning--plus it's got Brad Pitt in it so there ya go)

-The Secret of Roan Inish (with a gorgeous soundtrack by Mason Daring)

I second Dancer in the Dark. Sadest. Ever. End of Story.

And I don't know about anyone else but I could never get through Fox & the Hound without sobbing. Feast of Love made me cry a lot. And Au Revoir Les Enfants (which someone already suggested) is really sad too.

I can't think of any fantastic laughing movies but two of my all time favorite movies are "Love Me if You Dare" (aka Les Jeux D'Enfants, I don't know why they translated it differently), and "Wristcutters"

Have a lovely time watching!

If you're looking for another good book cry (that doesn't leave you sad in the end) try The Lovely Bones. (If you haven't already)!

A few British gems I love: Last Resort, Fish Tank, My Summer of Love, A Room for Romeo Brass
Also worth seeing from around the world for tears/joy All The Real Girls, Noi the Albino, Blame it on Fidel, Good Bye Lenin!, Lars & the Real Girl, Everything is Illuminated

I think all of these films share a kind of sadness/joy/beauty/sense of space. I like them anyway :)

Hmm... for a good cry, these are a few movies that get me every time:
The English Patient
Moulin Rouge
Beaches

I do not do scary movies, so you're on your own for those!

i found cinema paradiso to be very sad, but it's so beautiful and heartwarming, too. the feeling after you cry at a book or a film is so exhilarating - and i see it as a success of the storytelling and characters if i am moved by it!

i have just ordered the book thief on your recommendations - i'm so desperate for a good weepy read! thank you! x
