Gems of the (Previous) Week

Let's start this edition of Gems of the Week off with these actual (well, not actual-actual, as they're paper) gems by Egg Press found at The Shallow End.

via her famed warm gun.

Alfred Eisenstaedt, 1941 (via).

Lost & Found temporary hotel room via Skip Town.

Steve Martin. The best. Via.

Miki Sato.

Upon A Fold.

Mia Farrow in The Great Gatsby. Stills found here.

YSL via witches and slippers and hoods.

Sarah Anne Johnson via COLLECTED / The New Yorker.

I can't wait to see this movie. Paul Rudd. A major fave (via)

Dabito's (OLD BRAND NEW) amazing print.

"Four Decades of Skate Boarding in San Francisco" via Old Chum.

Little Edie Beale with her brothers (via).

Oh, Lestat. Via. An Interview magazine cover story on INTERVIEW with the Vampire. Too perfect. I wish I had that issue.

I'm realizing this post is sort of actor/movie heavy, but. Deal with it. I saw this post and was filled with glee. I love Frasier. It's one of my favorite tv shows ever. It's not exactly a "cool" comedy to love (like... I dunno... Arrested Development / 30 Rock / such), but... I am the biggest fan. Thanks to my mother who also adores it. Anyway. I saw that post and said to myself - "I bet there's a tumblr devoted to Frasier", and (of course) there was (also).

Is it wrong I kind of want to name a future child Niles? Truth.

Bandanas at Present via anne louise likes.

Cillian Murphy in pink sunglasses. Awesome? Awesome. Via.

(i heart) ART - Anne Benjamin / MOK DUK

Anne Benjamin (MOK DUK) seduced me illustration/design-wise with that Pride & Prejudice poster. Everything else was just guacamole on the taco (my version of icing on the cake - I don't like icing, really).

Lovely Finds - Anna Fewster / Lampyridae Press

Anna Fewster (Lampyridae Press) emailed me to introduce me to her work. Her email made me exceedingly happy for two reasons -

  1. her work is (as you can see) marvelous
  2. although she lives in the UK, I discovered that she's been camping in Maine roughly 1 mile from my house

Coincidences, coincidences. It's a small world & such. It seriously is though.

A few words about her process (visit her site for more info) -

My interest in letterpress printing developed as I carried out research on early 20th century book design for my doctorate, a collaborative project with the University of Sussex and Charleston. With unlimited access to Charleston’s unique collection, and a workspace in Vanessa Bell’s studio, I spent four years closely studying the books designed, illustrated, printed, and bound by the Bloomsbury group at the Hogarth Press and the Omega Workshops, and I became increasingly interested in the ways in which visual and verbal interact on the page. In the middle of writing a chapter about the influence of typesetting on Virginia Woolf's fiction I decided to buy myself a press and teach myself to print....Using an Adana Eight-Five platen press, metal type, cotton papers, hand cut linoleum and wood blocks and linseed oil inks, I use traditional processes and craft techniques to create work that expresses and reflects my love of design and detail, and inspires an appreciation of the characteristic texture and quality of letterpress.

Lovely Finds - Valentine's Day

It may be too late to order Valentines in some cases, but I was totally behind the game as far as posting them... so - here they are now. That's fine though, because I think it's better to send cards-o'-love to your boyfriends/girlfriends/platonic-pals all year long anyway. Not just on one particular day. Of course.

The card above? From Amy Walters.
